Spartacus: Blood and Sand (2010-)

Premise: Watch the story of history’s greatest gladiator unfold with graphic violence and explicit sex. This is Spartacus.

OH. MY. FUCKING. GOD.

It’s taken me 3 days to watch the first season of Spartacus: Blood and Sand, but as of right now I deem it FLAWLESS and, therefore, my favorite show ever! NEVER have I had any qualms with the direction a show has taken. Maybe I feel this way because I did not have to wait each week for a new episode, but who cares. As a matter of fact, who knew that the guy who wrote for Angel and Buffy was capable of this?!

I’ve never been so SATISFIED with a season as a whole. And then that SEASON FINALE! Talk about putting your money where your mouth is. I’ve never seen anything like that on television. I was screaming with joy at my computer like a mad woman. It was so right.

Like most, I fear that it won’t be the same in the second season without Andy Whitfield. I can’t imagine anyone playing Spartacus but him. Yet my prayers go out to him as he goes through treatment for cancer and I will try to embrace his replacement.

I actually watch the prequel that airs on Starz which peaked my interest of the show. Gods of the Arena pales so much in quality compared to this show. The prequel seems to focus more on sex and orgies than an actual plot. Also, the lead character Gannicus is NO Spartacus.
